It is obvious that media files can be found much faster if you organize them properly. Creating new folders in Windows Explorer and moving files from one place to another can take a very long time, especially if you have a considerably large number of media files. The good news is that you can find various third party applications for this task and JeniuS is one that stands out in the crowd. It is designed for easy, flexible and comfortable management of media files.

The setup procedure involves standard settings. Besides the program's files, you can also install additional skins and a Google Desktop plugin. It will take only a few moments to install JeniuS on your computer. It works on different Windows versions, from Win 2000 to Win 7 and you don't have to worry about its system requirements, because they are not high.

The interface is divided into multiple areas, making it possible to organize your media files on the same window. A navigation pane, found in the upper left corner, can be used to explore the folders on the hard drive or your albums library. Albums are created on a separate window and they are listed as large icons, in the lower left area of the main window. When creating an album, you may specify its name, media type, author, genre, year, type a short description and add a picture.

To add media files to an album, you must populate the library first, by clicking and dragging the files from one area of the interface to another. The next step is to right click your files and select an option to move them to an album. You can either create a new album, right after selecting the Move option, or you can select an existing album.

The library is basically a tree structure, with folders and sub-folders. Selecting a parent folder will display all created albums of a specific type (audio, video, etc). The sub-folders work as filters and you can select them to display your files by album, artist, genre and many other criteria. If your media files contain the necessary metadata, you will not have to create any albums. The parent folders will not reveal any albums, but their sub-folders will work the same way.

Editing metadata is another possibility that JeniuS places at your disposal. You just need to right click a file, select the appropriate options and type the information on a tabbed Properties window. The software's features do not stop here. In addition to its smart management system, it lets you batch rename files, play video or audio files with its own media player, export your files to a playlist and much more.

Pros

You may create albums yourself or let the software organize your files automatically, by using their metadata. It comes with numerous features, which you will definitely find useful. The best part is that JeniuS is very easy to use and it is absolutely free.

Cons

You can not select multiple files in the media library by drawing a rectangle with the mouse cursor. JeniuS offers a large array of smart features to help you organize your media files. From placing them in separate albums to editing their tag information, everything can be done without any difficulties.
